It is not every day that students get to meet a member of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team. But that is what Merton Elementary School   students in Côte Saint-Luc got to experience on  September 12.

Defenceman Alex Carrier and his wife Dr. Alicia Lessard, the co-owner of the Step Medical Clinic for children in Côte Saint-Luc, were special guests. Students were   able to dream about one day playing in the NHL or studying to become a doctor. Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette  and Mark Lidbetter of The Suburban  asked the couple some questions and so did students.

Carrier, who grew up in the Montreal area,  was traded to the Canadiens from the Nashville Predators last December. Carrier and Dr. Lessard have been together for more than 10 years.  Their long distance  connection remained intact, despite the challenges of Alex spending several seasons in junior hockey and the  minor leagues while  Alicia worked through medical school and residency.
