COVID-19 Update - January 2023

Monday, January 23, 2023

Dear EMSB community:

While upper respiratory infections (URI) are on the rise, to limit the spread in our schools, the EMSB is reminding its community to follow the Health Authorities’ guidelines below:

  1. Monitor your (or your child’s) SYMPTOMS.  (View symptoms by clicking on link)
  • Anyone with a fever or a poor general health condition which makes it difficult to carry on with daily activities, must STAY HOME.
  • Anyone with a cough, sore throat or nasal congestion, must WEAR A MASK*.
  1. If you (or your child) develop symptoms, it is strongly recommended to undergo a COVID-19 rapid test (at school if available or at home).

Individuals who have COVID-19 no longer have to self-isolate unless they have a fever.  However, they must WEAR A MASK FOR 10 DAYS during any social interactions, symptomatic or asymptomatic.

  1. Wear a mask if you are sick*:
  • If you (or your child) have a cough, sore throat, or nasal congestion.
  • If you (or your child) have COVID-19, symptomatic or asymptomatic, you must wear a mask for 10 days.
  1. Although it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask in public areas unless you are sick (see no. 3 above), the Public Health Department urges everyone to wear one in crowded and busy public areas.

*Except those who are unable to wear a mask or who are exempted.

Masks will continue to be available in all schools for students and staff members who need or choose to wear one.  We will keep you informed should any new directives be issued by the Health Authorities.

We wish everyone a healthy and prosperous 2023 New Year!
