COVID-19 Update 5: Director General Announcement for Staff and Schools

Montreal - Sunday, March 22, 2020

Today Quebec Premier, Mr. François Legault, announced that schools will remain closed until at least May 1st and that Ministry exams will be cancelled.

Education Minister, Mr. Jean-François Roberge, added that while they are not asking parents to replicate the usual school structure at home, parents who choose to keep their children academically stimulated will be provided with some tools. Specifically, the Ministry of Education states that they envision the school closure period in three stages:

  1. For the two weeks, up to March 27th, full closure with no educational activities formally provided.
  2. After March 30th, general educational activities will be made available to parents. More details to follow. These activities are optional.
  3. As of April 6th, a list of grade / level specific educational activities will be provided to parents - by email (or by post if email is not available). These activities are also optional. More details to follow.

The Directorate of the EMSB will undoubtedly be invited to take part in virtual meetings with the Ministry of Education and other school boards in the next few days to discuss the details of how the next two phases will be deployed. At present, we do not have any additional information - including IF parents and staff may be able to retrieve items left in school. So please, do not write to your Principal. As soon as we have more information, we will let you know.

Until then, please stay home and keep safe and healthy! A very special thanks again to the daycare, management and board staff who are providing essential services to our EMSB and larger community!
