Arts Education Courses
The arts call on different forms of intelligence and enable us to confront, understand and interpret reality and transpose it into symbolic language. The practice of an art form offers access to the world of the imagination and draws on creativity
Visual Arts
The compulsory program in Visual Arts is a continuation of the Secondary Cycle One program. Students in Visual Arts consolidate and enrich their artistic skills and knowledge. They become more aware of how they use the phases and movements of the creative dynamic, and thus develop their creative power and their artistic identity.
Like the Secondary Cycle One Visual Arts program, the Secondary Cycle Two program is based on three complementary competencies:
- Creates personal images
- Creates media images
- Appreciates images
Dance
The compulsory program in Dance is a continuation of the Secondary Cycle One program and is grounded in the subject-specific and artistic learning previously acquired by students.
The compulsory dance program aims to develop three complementary competencies:
- Creates dances
- Performs dances
- Appreciates dances
Drama
The compulsory Drama program in high school is a continuation of arts education offered in elementary school. Students can develop and consolidate their elementary-level learning, regardless of the arts subjects to which they might have been introduced, since the Drama program is grounded in the basic learning fostered by arts education while aiming to develop three complementary and interdependent competencies:
- Creates dramatic works
- Performs dramatic works
- Appreciates dramatic works
Music
The compulsory music program builds on and consolidates the artistic learning previously acquired by students. Secondary music education encourages students to develop their autonomy, creative potential, artistic sensibility and performing and listening skills, as well as their ability to express themselves and communicate through music.
As in Cycle One, the Secondary Cycle Two music program aims to develop three complementary and interdependent competencies:
- Creates musical works
- Performs musical works
- Appreciates musical works
